Well, Valentines Day and record blizzards have come and gone... the snow caused me to have to reschedule my VDay plans, which is fine. This international relationship of mine is teaching my soooo much about patience! (Which I guess is a good thing.)
I've been feeling SO pulled in the direction of Africa and the Caribbean lately - I've lived in Barbados for a year, then come back to the States, and now I am YEARNING to get back to someplace warm and black. Yep, I said it! Let me tell you, I WON'T apologize for wanting to be in a place closer to my roots.
That being said, I know I will more than likely end up living in another country. It's DEFINITELY my destiny. It must be, because most young black people my age don't seem like they're even thinking about this stuff the way I do - and this is a constant want playing over and over in my mind. I find myself CONSTANTLY researching jobs, real-estate, study abroad, volunteering, and lifestyle in the Caribbean and Africa.
I'm excited to find lots of Africa affiliated orgs on Twitter that I can follow. Most of the Caribbean ones are geared towards whites who want to move to the area for the fun and the sun, but really have no historical identity with the islands. This is NOT my interest.
I am grateful for my education and upringing - both have given me the intellectual curiosity to want MORE than the status quo and more than what's being offered in the U.S. I am so thankful to the Universe for this Enlightenment. I just KNOW that there is so much more in store for my life than what the U.S. has to offer...
