| Me in St. Philip, Barbados looking out at the Atlantic Ocean, Dec. 2008 |
As fall has officially settled itself into the Northeastern United States, I cannot help but acknowledge that ever-present pull back to the Caribbean... and back to Barbados.
I have memories of turquoise waters lapping against the shoreline of Brown's Beach, of silky palms cradling the winding roads of the West Coast near Sandy Lane, of salt from the East Coast water misting through the breeze and onto my lips, of the cool breeze that emerges from a deep lush gully, of hearing my Bajan ancestors whisper into my ears as I walk on the sands of Bathsheba, of spicy Friday nights at Oistins on the South Coast watching the elders waltz to the classics, of the soft humming of whistling frogs singing to each other until the sun rises, as new lovers stroll innocently along the Gap in St. Lawrence...
I miss this...
